Success Stories
Since 2002, DharmaTech has improved the technology infrastructure and outreach capabilities of more than 25 nonprofits organizations in the Intermountain West region. Here's what some of our partner organizations say about DharmaTech's work:
DharmaTech has helped our organization to renovate our computer systems and improve how we use them. With the time they’ve helped us save over the past year, we’ve gained the equivalent of a half-time staff person to take on critical program work.
- Jim Catlin, Executive Director, Wild Utah Project
DharmaTech partner 2005–present
Before SUWA began working with DharmaTech, we struggled to find consistent, reliable information technology support that provided more than just a “band-aid” fix to our daily technology frustrations. DharmaTech transformed our computer network into a system that supports our work and enhances our operations. Rather than wasting time with slow computers, downed e-mail, and missing files, we were able to focus on protecting Utah Wilderness. Our staff now views technology as a useful tool, rather than a barrier, to our work.
- Scott Groene, Executive Director, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance
DharmaTech partner 2004–2007
While our staff and budget are small, the data and communication requirements of our grassroots fundraising and political advocacy operation are huge and complex. DharmaTech has been invaluable in delivering appropriate technologies to bring HEAL Utah into the 21st century on a modest budget and with very little additional overhead.
Before DharmaTech, we couldn't share files, so everyone had multiple copies of the same document and we couldn't easily identify the most recent version. Now we have a shared, central place for our electronic documents and everyone is on the same page. We also had to rely on a volunteer programmer to do all of our website updates using a single copy of Dreamweaver. Now, thanks to DharmaTech, we're using a content management system that allows us to make our own real-time updates to the website without the need for any software at all. Finally, our Microsoft Access database used to live on one computer that our resident Mac user (the former Director) couldn't even look at. DharmaTech set us up with a web-based system that we can all use—regardless of operating system—and access even when we're out of the office.
In the corporate world, you'd typically need an army of network engineers, consultants, and designers to deliver this level of technology. And yet, at every level, DharmaTech has connected us with no-cost, low-maintenance, open source technologies that don't require expensive license agreements. Any environmental nonprofit looking to jump-start its tech infrastructure on a modest budget should give DharmaTech a call.
